Medications & NSAIDs for Dogs

Non-steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs) like Metacam, Deramaxx, Rimadyl, Previcox, Onsior, Etogesic, and Galliprant are the most prescribed category of pet pain medications. While no animal should be in pain, a recent study indicated that 73% of dogs developed gastrointestinal inflammation after only 7 days of NSAID administration. Another study published in the Journal of Veterinary Internal Medicine by the Universities of Georgia, Minnesota, & Texas A&M found 83% of dogs receiving NSAIDs exhibited gastrointestinal damage...no wonder Vets are cautioning pet owners about their long-term use. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/33534961/
